Cooking with Cannabis: A Beginner’s Guide to Edibles 🍪
Making your own cannabis edibles can be fun, rewarding, and delicious—but it takes a little know-how to do it right. The key steps are activating your cannabis and dosing carefully so every batch comes out consistent.
🔥 Step 1: Decarboxylation
Cannabis must be heated gently to activate cannabinoids like THC and CBD.
- Preheat oven to 240°F (115°C)
- Break flower into small pieces
- Bake for 30–40 minutes on a lined baking sheet
This step unlocks the compounds that make edibles effective.
🧈 Step 2: Infusion
Once decarbed, combine cannabis with butter or oil on low heat for 2–3 hours. Strain with cheesecloth to remove plant matter. This cannabutter or infused oil can be used in any recipe.
📏 Step 3: Calculate Potency
Check the THC or CBD percentage on your flower label.
- Example: 20% THC ≈ 200 mg THC per gram
- 3.5 g (⅛ oz) × 200 mg = 700 mg total THC in your batch
Divide total mg by the number of servings to estimate dose per piece. For beginners, aim for 2.5–5 mg THC each.
